Pros

Good work-life balance and respect for work-life balance (CPD is really great with this) Supportive and helpful co-workers Team Approach and consults Flexible scheduling within your work day Fascinating population Opportunities to learn about and use new interventions Yearly trainings with Forensic Mental Health Association and CONREP training Moderate travel Effective and flexible programming Job Satisfaction with a extremely undeserved and dynamic population (definitely feel like you're making a real difference) Opportunities for patient advocacy and court room experience Opportunities to network and work with State Really fun band of co-workers

Cons

Always seem to be on the low end of pay scale High resistance to salary increases No room for advancement Pressure to do additional work or work outside of scope without fair compensation Psychiatrist is difficult to work with and often absent while dashing boundaries Clear favoritism and nepotism amongst Admin Tendency to hire unlicensed staff resulting in a very high turn over Odd and miss-guided attempts to micro-manage Passive aggressive emails Little guidance and training with On boarding Disorganized and inconsistent response to COVID Strong potential for burn out Does not offer hazard pay General feeling of being undervalued and underappreciated by admin
