Pros

The best reasons to work at Harris Teeter, for a part-time employee ,are the benefits packages. These include a 401k matching and a compensation that is higher than the average in this industry. The interaction with the consumers usually brings a positive atmosphere in the stores. Being able to serve someone to the fullest and their appreciation is what keeps most of the part-time employees going throughout the day. Being able to build up friendships that go beyond the workplace is also a positive aspect of working at Harris Teeter. There is positive recognition by the "Customer Service" management for working hard.

Cons

The management at the stores are highly undertrained for their positions. The company opens new stores with under trained management that leads to chaos in the opening weekends. Managers tend to avoid contact with part-time employees. Some of the stores that are new are very understaffed which causes strenuous hours for the full-time and part-time employees. In the store that I had experience most of my work, the management had certain issues with hiring certain ethnic groups for their store. There were open, key word open here, interviews before the store opened and I was denied an interview with the company because there were no more spaces open. I did some research, and I had a colleague of mine apply for a position and they were offered an interview at "their convenience". If applying for a part-time position, there are more times than not were they ask you to come in to work without prior notice. There are also tendencies for schedule changes that are unannounced because the managers that handle scheduling have passed the budgeted hours for the week.
