Pros

I have been at HDMA for several years and it is a great place to work. While it is a smaller staff (about 30), there are opportunities for promotions, for learning/training and advancing your career. The benefits are very generous and the staff are friendly. A couple of years ago, HDMA implemented a new telecommuting policy that allows for additional flexibility, which is a great benefit. It is in a great location - just a couple of blocks from the Ballston metro.

Cons

Because it is a smaller office, you sometimes need to take on additional responsibilities. However, I found this to be a positive as it increased the number of skills that I have learned over the years.

Pros

HDA works very hard to make employees feel valued, supported, and heard. Benefits are generous, but the flexibility in most departments is what really makes staff happy. They adapt benefits on the fly when called for - quickly making changes to improve employees' experiences when asked and going all in. Think perks like standing desks, training specific to job OR personal growth, etc. HDA also works to meet needs of employees seeking extended leave for health or maternity needs.

Cons

A little top heavy and not as many opportunities to advance when upper level leadership isn't turning over, but they do try to manage it for junior staff through title changes and other creative compensation.

Pros

I honestly loved my experience at HDMA. I love the work environment,, the location - it's next to a lot of lunch spots, the friendly staff.

Cons

There were barely to none cons about my experience interning here. The only thing I wasn't aware of was that there was no regular parking areas in Arlington and on my first day I had to learn that the tough way.
