Pros

- Relatively free and flexible schedule - You get to see kids - Slightly higher part-time rates at $10/h (but not worth it when you consider the cons) Those are the only pros

Cons

Interview process was shady. Hardly any screening was done. There was also little briefing on what we were really signing up for. The actual work was physically straining on my knees but I was not informed about this before signing the contract. When I entered the company, I was turning 19 -- almost peak fitness but my knees were badly bruised and my cartilage was dislocated after 2 months of working there. I told my supervisor why I could no longer work there -- because of injuries sustained from work. Young me did not know my work rights and did not demand for compensation from work injuries. Supervisor was unsympathetic and coldly told me to collect my pay and stop coming to work. The staff working there were mostly university graduates working as full-time teachers. They seemed very unfriendly and made little attempt to bond and get to know the part-timers. Once, I entered the room while the full-time teachers were taking a break. They were gossiping about another part-timer who had questioned them about the validity of ESP skill training (extra-sensory perception) because Heguru claims to be able to train such skills and enhance the abilities of the right brain. Instead of having a civil discussion with the part-timer and being open to questions, they were talking about how uninformed the part-timer was and how angry they felt being questioned. This was a huge turn-off because they did not directly address their grievances with the part-timer and instead created a gossipy work environment. I did not appreciate that. The entire system is also ridiculous, expecting kids to complete 43 activities within 60 minutes? As an assistant, I was mostly anxious because of how quickly we had to move in order to pack 43 activities in 60 minutes. One delayed action and I would have to face the stink eye of the full-time teacher. Lastly, the title of "Teacher Assistant" was pretty misleading. I expected to have a hand of assisting the teaching, to help teach and educate and connect with the children. Instead, my role was solely the handling of logistics. I had no role in educating the children. Poor job, please don't go. Also my knees are ruined forever and I had to use all the money I earned from this job (and more from my own pocket) to fix my knees. At least now I have an interesting story to tell about a cultish work environment.
