Pros

The people - genuinely kind, caring and down to earth. You’ll learn a lot about the aviation industry very quickly.

Cons

The company is rife with micromanagement, the owners are extremely paranoid and constantly scrutinising every detail of employees work. You feel like you’re under constant surveillance rather than being trusted to do your job. The company is stuck in their ways and incredibly resistant to change despite staff and management wanting to change, they’re simply not allowed to make decisions. There is stagnation and a toxic work culture where new ideas are either ignored or shot down, even if they could genuinely improve the business. The lack of trust in the staff is stifling instead of empowering employees to contribute and grow, you feel like you’re walking on eggshells. You’re paid just over minimum wage for 9-hour days, with no overtime pay, even if you stay extra to help the company. You only get a 30min lunch and don’t get the extra time you’ve put in back. No sick pay, so staff come into work sick because they can’t afford to miss a paycheck. Employees are overworked and unvalued. False promises made to both staff and students. Students are given unrealistic expectations about what they’ll achieve at Helicentre. Staff themselves are fantastic – kind, creative, and hardworking individuals who would excel if given the opportunity and the freedom to take initiative. With the right leadership and the owners allowing the managers they appointed to manage and stop micromanaging their employees Helicentre could be a great place to work. If you're looking for a dynamic, supportive workplace that values innovation and growth, this is not the place for you

Pros

Staff and students are lovely, go the extra mile to help each other.

Cons

Where to start. Ownership The owners who own Helicentre are some of the greediest, out of touch and incompetent people I’ve ever met. whilst they definitely a successful business, they are control freaks, steeped in ideology and methods of working from 20 years ago. They do not want to change nor do they want your input on how to improve. Their HR is as useful as a chocolate teapot, not sure what Level 3 HR course has been done but leave is never approved on time, having to chase constantly as well as staff and contractors being paid late on occasion. The directors/manager are only in managerial positions because they are family or friends, they have no real qualifications and do a sub-par job when they’re positions should be outsourced to experienced and knowledgeable individuals. Long hours as well as unpaid lunch and a camera system to monitor the exact minute you clock in and out. Senior management is basically just their slaves who do as they say and spy on their staff to report back. Some of the staff their work 24/7, outside of work all day everyday and don’t even get sick pay. Namely the head of training. Without the HoT Helicentre would have gone bust years ago, they are quite literally the beating heart of the place and they give every single second of their time to bettering the company despite the constantly bullying from the owner(s). I would avoid working here at all costs, unless you’re interested in aviation and want to see some cool helicopters every now and then.
