Bad Place to Work unless you need experience - Counselor Henderson Behavioral Health Employee Review

Pros

It's easy to get a job fresh out of college/grad school here because not too many people who are experienced and know better will compete with you for these positions The company offers a lot of PTO for sick time Some company locations might offer free supervision for therapy interns working toward licensure.

Cons

The pay is really bad. Even if you have a college or graduate degree and 5+ years of experience, there are a lot of people with salaries under $35,000 per year for full time work. Raised and bonuses are not guaranteed. They are offered depending on the company's budget and, from what I've seen, are never enough to account for inflation or the fact that the company's health insurance packages get more expensive every year. The CEO and many of the management staff feel like people should not be entitled to scheduling out of their PTO for time off. The company offers a lot of PTO, which is advertised on their web site to lure people in despite the salary, but the CEO and some of the management like to recite "PTO is a privilege and not a right.". It's understandable that if you have PTO, you cannot take it whenever you want and that you need to work it out with your supervisor. However, considering that you can only cash out up to a certain number of hours when you resign or every 5 years of employment, they would rather you lose most of it when you end up leaving. Billable services are more important to this company than serving clients. Technically, it's a nonprofit organization, but there are for profit places that serve low income populations better (medicaid is usually the billing source of people whose mental health problems get in the way of making a living, either way). During the pandemic, there are and have been many instances where keeping client numbers up appears to be more important than sending people home if they have symptoms or a high temperature.

Pros

Clients are genuinely in need of services.

Cons

Subpar pay. "Leadership" is anything but. Supervisors are HORRIBLE and it is incredible that a company that has been around this long is allowing new hires to be degraded and trodden on like they do, but I guess when they are the ones with the 6 figure salaries, the little people actually doing the work do not matter. There are no employee supports and the company will toss you out with the garbage regardless of how professional and trained you are. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME THINKING YOU WILL BE DIFFERENT.
