Pros

Okay to start career but you will become unhappy very fast, some good people but watch your back.

Cons

HF has extremely low and unfair pay one of the worst in the state for RN’s and administrative alike; they gave a small raise in 2011 and now no raises again in 2012. Benefits get worse and worse every year; the raise they gave in 2011 didn’t even cover the increase in benefits in 2011 for most of us lower echelon folks. Leadership is unprofessional and executives treat you like you are a cow in a pasture of cattle (Do not know that you have a name, do not say good morning, do not look you in the eyes when speaking to you, when they do speak to you it is to tell you what you are doing wrong, use derogatory language, not sensitive to socioeconomic conditions, no understanding of work life balance, use sexually explicit language, are argumentative to ideas which are not their own, disrespect other cultures and religions, etc.), leaders only like you if you want to be their friend or dress provocatively and you laugh at every joke they tell, favoritism is played and if you rub your leader the wrong way a reason will be found to fire you or your life will be made so miserable until you quit (yet they will not fire people who truly deserve it because they are their friends!). There is no professional development, little opportunity to advance and they will not pay for any types of certificates, continuing education courses or professional memberships (ex. SHRM). Technology and real estate (except for West Bloomfield) is far behind other health systems and you are not given what you need to get your job done (no cell phones, you use your own, pay your own bill and no reimbursement). Expectations are unrealistic, the more you do the more you are expected to do until you are so burnt out and overwhelmed. You never have time to do the “job” you were hired for (if you can figure out what that is) and then to top it off you are measured on metrics that are always wrong. It is a hostile environment with a revolving door of staff and leadership, simply stated everyone is plain miserable but afraid to say anything for fear of retaliation. I thought this would be the company I would retire from and it is very unfortunate to see a place I used to love working for deteriorate so fast.

Pros

Friendly, safe and trusting environment, leaders that listen, lots of opportunities for training and development.

Cons

Inconsistent between different hospitals and leaders. Health insurance is awful and expensive. Bonuses only go to leaders, even though frontline staff are doing the actual work.
