Job hunter beware - Customer Service Homesteaders Life Employee Review

Pros

You will be done with work at 1 pm on Friday afternoons. You are to use that time as your appointment time.

Cons

Beware that you are walking into a company filled with upper and middle aged women. There is no advancement - it is an extremely small company and the people who are there, are complacent and for many it's the only job they have ever had so they are blinded by the poor ethics. Your annual raise will be based on how much sick time you have used and how it compares to the company average. If you have kids, you can kiss that goodbye. There is absolutely no work life balance. Upper management does NOT care about your issues. They like people who will sit quietly and pretend nothing is going on. Have an issue you would like addressed? Keep your mouth shut or your head is on the chopping block as soon as they find a reason for it.

Pros

Working in HR at Homesteaders Life is incredibly rewarding. The company genuinely cares about its employees and backs that up with strong benefits, flexible work-life balance, and a leadership team that listens. In HR, you're empowered to contribute to a positive, people-first culture, and you're given the tools and trust to make a real impact. What really sets this place apart is the people. I work with some of the most kind, thoughtful, and collaborative colleagues I've ever met. There's a true sense of teamwork and mutual respect here. Everyone is passionate about what they do, and it creates a supportive environment where you feel both challenged and appreciated.

Cons

Honestly, not much to complain about. Like any company, there are busy seasons and moments of change, but leadership communicates well and values feedback.
