      Pros

      Was given extreme latitude to make changes to the office working environment which led to profound satisfaction on my part and general esteem throughout the company. Owner was cognizant of and respected my special circumstances where combat related PTSD was involved.

      Cons

      Property management is a dogfight. Much of the job is making full grown adults fulfill their responsibilities. In hindsight, not a great career path for prior military who is used to people acting with integrity. On account of major stress, everyone including CEO can have periods of less than stellar mood. In the heat of the moment, the environment can make it seem as if the people themselves are the problem when, in fact, it’s simply rough to do business in any capacity where you have control over people’s basic needs.

Now, a year after you wrote this, we have definitely heeded your advice and have seen a beautiful, sustained shift in morale and overall atmosphere in the office. Property management will always be a difficult balance, but our staff are stars at dealing with it as a team! I sincerely appreciate your feedback!

      Pros

      Great owners? Yes! Great tenants? Yes! Great coworkers? Yes! (both past and present) Good times and great laughs? Yes! Urge to write a book of true stories that would confound everyone and keep laughs going through the whole thing? Yes! Owner with a big heart? Yes! Owner that has stood with me for all these years? Yes! Owner that I could call 24/7 and she would come running? Yes!!! Oh… and just an FYI… we have shed some “baggage” and made some fantastic upgrades to help us out now and in the future. Looking forward to even more great changes! Are there going to be more rough times? Yes! Bring it on!

      This is a very stressful field of work that just isn’t made for the faint hearted, thin skinned, or non committal types. Mad owners? Yes! Mad tenants? Yes! Mad employees? Yes! Mad Boss? Yes! Difficult times? Yes! Crazy days? Yes! Nonstop phones? Yes! The words “I quit” muttered daily? Yes! Rules to follow? Yes! Owner driven to make her business succeed? Yes! Owner often one sided or tunnel visioned? Yes!
