Pros

Houston Methodist by and large is a wonderful place, great people, great culture. Best of all are the doctors and nurses, by far. You can be proud to work there. The most acute service lines are very well run.

Cons

Management style is a little old fashioned and usually comes from the fellows program, so they don't have innovative, well rounded, diverse leadership. Basically everyone who is a leader was trained there, so it is rare to see new leaders. The most troublesome area to work is Global, where the management is simply bad and verbally abusive with incredible turnover, and some functions turnover every three months. Beware! Also, the business development at the med center and marketing areas are somewhat weak. Parking is awful.

Pros

Great organization to grow professionally in healthcare operations. Strong focus on patient care, quality, innovation, and leadership development. I’ve gained valuable experience in physician support, operations, workflow improvement, and cross-functional collaboration while working with talented teams and leaders.

Cons

Fast-paced environment with high expectations and increasing responsibilities. At times, leadership roles can feel under-titled compared to the level of operational work being performed. Work-life balance can also be challenging during staffing shortages, major initiatives, or clinic transitions.
