Pros

100% remote-first, and you work with some great people - but you won’t find those great people in leadership. Prior to the acquisition, Humi boasted of incredible work-life balance, extremely capable people, an inspiring mission, and a culture that employees dream of. After being acquired by EH, it’s done a full 180° and is barely recognizable.

Cons

Basically everything good has been stripped from Humi’s culture. Humigos are expected to attend meetings that go well past work hours (5-7PM, even later sometimes) with no clear expectations or talk about when things might change. I understand acquisition pains but not even acknowledging this huge adjustment is wrong. Perks that once made Humi a great place to work were quickly taken away in the name of “fairness”, like half-day Fridays and company-wide holiday closures (this was changed to “you have to use your PTO during holidays”). Career growth is stunted and Humigos are left wondering where they fit into a company of more than 1500 employees. We went from knowing exactly who to ask when you had a question or needed help, to being introduced to new people every day and not understanding who to go to for what. EH leadership has this mindset of “well, it worked when we did it before, so it’ll work in Canada”, even when they have the Canadian team with years of experience in the market telling them we know something won’t work. Their response when you don’t “align” is “this may not be the place for you”.

Pros

People you talk to are generally really nice. Used to have 4.5 days work week, flexible work schedule, fully remote.

Cons

There is a significant issue with employee retention; the high turnover rate makes it difficult to maintain team morale. The management style is heavily focused on micromanagement with several meetings every week, which limits individual autonomy and trust. Leadership feels disconnected from the day-to-day operations, leading to a lack of clear direction. There are very few paths for internal promotion or professional development after the acquisition from 200 to 1500 employees overnight.
