Pros

Pay, vacation, benefits. Turnover is so high that even bad employees with okay attendance have incredible job security.

Cons

Incredibly high turnover. People will no-call/no-show 3 shifts a week without a write-up but the minute a dependable full timer slips up it's the end of the world. In the kitchen people will often have to cover extra stations to make up for absent employees without any extra pay. Once in a while is understandable but this has been going on day after day almost 2 years now. Things like casual racism and sexual harassment are brushed off by management and these people are even given more opportunities. They will have their minimum wage teenagers cleaning feces without any sort of proper santiation procedures. The list goes on.... It's a store with 1000 managers all fighting for the smallest bit of power and it manifests in some pretty interesting behavior. The most common being completely abandoning any sense of decency to please the boss and bottom line.

Hy-Vee is a great company that truly cares about the communities we serve. Our 14 fundamentals drive both the customer and employee experience, guiding how we treat and serve our customers and each other. Leadership actively seeks employee feedback and uses it to drive meaningful change across all locations. There is a wide variety of jobs and career opportunities in many different areas of the company from retail to supply chain, IT, marketing, and so many more. obust employee benefits include tuition assistance for degrees, certifications, and foundational learning at little to no cost to employees, and the company focuses on promoting from within for most leadership roles.

Cons

As a 24/7 retail business, scheduling can be demanding in some roles — though the variety of positions means there's flexibility to find the right fit. With a large, decentralized workforce spread across hundreds of locations, consistent employee communication is an ongoing area of focus and improvement.
