Pros

Some nice people are there.

Cons

1. Management- They're not sympathetic to pregnant employees who need things like frequent bathroom breaks. One manager yelled at a coworker with down syndrome and made her cry. 2. Scheduling- No matter how many times I wrote my available hours I'd keep getting scheduled to work when I wasn't available. I either had to make arrangements or get someone else to cover for me. It isn't always easy to get someone to do that depending on when your shift is. My schedule was unpredictable. One of my coworkers had to skip a college class because the scheduler was too stubborn to accommodate her. They kept hiring new people, but would cut the hours of people who already worked there. We still kept being under-staffed which was stressful. People from other departments had to keep leaving their posts to help us. 3. Some people were bossy despite not being supervisors or even managers. One coworker yelled at me in front of a customer. I tried to resolve it with her. When that didn't work, I discussed the situation with the human resources manager. She said she'd heard this about her before and would talk to her. Talking wasn't enough, because she went right back to ordering me around. She didn't need someone wagging their finger at her. She needed a consequence. 4. There was a lack of consistency. They kept training us multiple times how to sack groceries and gave us a sheet outlining the rules. Hardly anybody followed the rules, even the managers.

Pros

You get to constantly move around the store thru the different departments. Depending on the hours you work you can potentially learn how to do little things within each department, for example the deli or meat counters, which in turn opens an opportunity to get additional hours if needed when AOL doesn't have the business to keep all the shoppers shopping. Hyvee was always very good about giving you the opportunity to help in other areas of the store if your department was lacking hours or business to give you the full 40 for your work week.

Cons

The management/ chain of command often gets a little confusing as you have department managers, assiant managers, general mangers and a director. Often times I felt as if assiant managers sometimes gave different directions then the department manager would give almost condescending what you were told from your direct manager, but would fail to communicate with the department manager this info, causing conflict with employees being told to do it one way and then also getting asked why things were done that way after being trained to do it another way. Basically no communication by your assiant to the department manager causing internal conflict.
