Pros

You lean to avoid agencies like this.

Cons

- Toxic "family" atmosphere - Expected to work stupidly long hours - No documentation - No version control - No industry standard framework - Horizontal CSS - High turnover of developers - The skills you learn would put you at a disadvantage

Thank you for this review, however it is very important we correct some of the serious statements made: Toxic Atmosphere - this is difficult to pin down exactly as the majority of the last year has been in lockdown working from home so the atmosphere has been very different than normal as it is a challenging time for the world. Generally we have few complaints when working in the office together and any we do receive are acted upon. Expected to work long hours - simply not true. All hours worked are monitored, however if a project does run over then we make sure the work is done for the client as promised No version control - we have version control of every file in the business from every department. Just because this isn't on github doesn't mean it doesn't take place. No industry framework - we work with a multitude of different platforms and will use what is best for the job and the client which does lead onto the next answer... High turnover of developers - we have only had 2 developers leave in the last 2 years Working smart not hard is absolutely fine if what is produced is correct and is fit for purpose

Pros

- My work is varied and engaging, with plenty of opportunities to learn and improve. (And progress!) - The people of Hydra are a wonderful and diverse mix. I have no direct personal problems with anybody, which is refreshing to say for a company of around 20 staff. - The office is just generally a nice place to be! It certainly doesn’t feel like you’re off to any soulless 9-5 working here. - After working here for 18 months, I can see how the business has listened to previous feedback left by myself and other colleagues (both past and present). Management actually listen and amend their ways, instead of just claiming they do. - Finally, worth mentioning is the inclusiveness. As an open and out trans woman, I've been thoroughly impressed with Hydra and everyone there. "Everyone is welcome" is what I was told, and "Everyone is welcome" is what I have experienced.

Cons

- There have been tough deadlines for some jobs, that’s just how working for an agency goes. There have been times of slight crunch every now and again, but this is absolutely not the norm. - The only other thing worth mentioning, is the nature of my job role means that remote work is tricky, or not quite possible in all cases.
