Pros

There are some very smart people working for this business

Cons

This place is insane. In all the time I've been here, there has only been one all-business meeting, and one all-employee email. The CEO keeps the departments siloed purposefully, to ensure no one has the full picture, and actively discourages collaborative working. There is a clear lack of direction in the business, and everyone is paralysed by fear of reprisals from the CEO to make any decisions. The CEO is extremely fond of litigation, which may make sense in a South-African setting, however, in the UK, just creates a reputation for being difficult. Rumours in England are rife about the poor conduct of the business, only adding to the poor reputation. The business appears to be economic with the truth in every circumstance, misleading staff, students, and the organisations we deliver for. There is no way that the students are getting the education they/ the government is paying for, with enormous class sizes and a total lack of support for students. The CEO comes across as a sociopath, shouting and stamping his feet when someone doesn't do exactly as he told them to - or even does do as he tells them to, and doesn't get the result he wants, shouting at staff in group settings, demeaning them, submitting them to a barrage of unpleasant messages and emails, and sending derogatory WhatsApp messages at any time of the day or night. It was admitted to me by a member of the people team that the business tries to employ people with no families, so that they are able to dedicate more time to working - early mornings, late nights and weekends are the norm here, with no employee benefits granted for UK staff.
