Cons
Accountability Company lacks and defines accountability differently for each team. Monthly Sales Reports and Weekly AR Reports are only generated by select teams. Each team has different sets of rules and expectations. Tasks delegated from the CEO only get carried out by a few members of the staff. Upper management lacks initiative, whereby manager will take naps during work hours, repeatedly engage in non-work-related recreational activities (watching television shows/sports, practicing golf swings, frequent smoke breaks etc.) and delegates all tasks/communication to lower level staff. I'm not kidding when I saw that managers take smoke breaks every hour and for more than half the work day while lower level staff are doing all the work. Employee Development/Compensation No clear route towards advancement, promotion, and employee development. Zero structure and framework established for performance reviews and salary. There are no outlined performance metrics and "success" is solely based on sales volume and revenue, but staff roles are defined as project management and inventory management. No clear route for staff to expand sales as sales team are 3rd party clients in retirement age. Lower level staff are severely underpaid (Starting $30k, increases to $36k after probation) with no structure towards salary reviews. As a result, employee turnover rate is frequent and 11 employees left the company over a span of a year and five months. The company roster only has 15 positions (1 CEO, 3 AR, 4 Managers, 7 PM/APM). Communication Two primary languages used on a daily basis to communicate leads to increased segregation between lower level and management. There is no transparency between upper management and lower level staff. All directives and initiatives from CEO are communicated only through upper management and management fails in delivering the information. All hands meetings should be a serious consideration to promote transparency and clear communication/directives. PTO/Lunch Requested time off is very limited and any time off is looked down upon. 3 personal days a year AFTER the first year. Sometimes you will not be paid for days you take off. Wednesday/Friday lunches are not yours and they turn into company meetings, used as an outlet to communicate company directives or discuss religious/political values and beliefs. Vacation time is often interrupted by work related tasks. Corporate Structure Corporate structure is set up in a way where there is no cross-functional team work. As a result, information is mismanaged and tasks/actions are repeated leading to wasted time. Resource Management The company is under-staffed and short hand, yet still expected to accomplish high quality of work and complete all work-related tasks. Frequent employee turnover and zero rewards for loyal staff. Micro-Management Team members are required to CC everyone in all communication. All tasks/actions are observed and delegated. Zero autonomy. Lower staff members are expected to run errands and conduct all transactions during business trips. Workplace Safety/Manual Labor/RMA Work Job description fails to mention warehouse and manual labor. Lower level staff solely responsible for hard manual labor while upper level staff micro-manages and delegates. Zero workplace safety training and employees are expected to operate fork lifts, lift/carry heavy boxes, and inspect/repair parts. Business Travel Employees are discouraged from using rideshare services to get to the airport and are encouraged to use their own money/resources in order to get to the airport. Frequently staff members are pushed towards driving far distances off business hours and are not reimbursed.
