Pros

IFRC offers very good pay and benefits and there are many very nice people who you will work with. Good intentions, excellent brand reputation, earnest and dedicated individuals. Independence and mission driven individuals maintain a focus on delivering important assistance around the world.

Cons

The Red Cross / Crescent Movement is very insular. Most employees have worked their entire careers within the movement and have not been exposed to other work place realities. "This is the way we've always done things" permeates the IFRC which means their are many worst-practices in effect and no knowledge of solutions to common problems.

Pros

The UNGA is a busy time at the UN, this provides a lot of excellent experience. The team works well and tries its best to ensure it is a beneficial one. Unlike many internships related to the UN, it is paid a stipend, which makes a difference

Cons

The stipend is not quite enough to live on, but it is fair for 3 days a week.

Pros

Friendly and inspiring environment. You really feel at the center of humanitarian work and that you can contribute to concrete impacts for vulnerable people.

Cons

Management does not always coach employees in new roles and too much turnover. Difficulties in balancing work and family life when you're hired on a contract basis.
