Pros

Great mandate and Humanitarian imperative. Close to communities on the ground with National Societies. Great colleagues from all walks of life and the work is varying from day to day.

Cons

Archaic, inefficient admin and finance procedures. Gender equality and diversity within high-levels of the organisation is absent with no clear active strategy for change apart from a women in Humanitarian leadership group that is not tasked with any real outcomes. Benefits package is less than UN and other comparable organizations.

Pros

The UNGA is a busy time at the UN, this provides a lot of excellent experience. The team works well and tries its best to ensure it is a beneficial one. Unlike many internships related to the UN, it is paid a stipend, which makes a difference

Cons

The stipend is not quite enough to live on, but it is fair for 3 days a week.

Pros

Friendly and inspiring environment. You really feel at the center of humanitarian work and that you can contribute to concrete impacts for vulnerable people.

Cons

Management does not always coach employees in new roles and too much turnover. Difficulties in balancing work and family life when you're hired on a contract basis.
