Pros
1. If you love surprises, you’d enjoy it here You will never know what’s coming - whether it’s the attitude given by your manager/boss because they are in a bad mood, or the gossip that is being spread about you or your colleagues! 2. To be part of the family As a family run business, you’d have to wait till your next life to be promoted or recognised for your hard work. If you want to climb up a non-existent ladder, you can give it a try, but you’d never get there unless you are related or introduced into the ‘family’ as a family friend. 3. Laid-back and relaxed As there is barely any job progression in the role that you are in, if you are looking for a job of any role to just pass time, this company fits the criteria! 4. Jack of All Trades You will be given a workload that is not part of your JD. Once you know or volunteer to do something out of your scope, it’ll be yours forever. With limited resources and headcount, you’d have to scramble for information and juggle multiple roles throughout your time here. 5. Less responsibilities If you have a talent for delegating your own responsibilities onto others, you'll fit right in — it's practically a valued skill here. 6. Entertaining You will be able to witness how someone entertains the bosses and what rumours will be spread around the company. However, if you do not reciprocate to the words of the entertainer, you’d be on the blacklist. 7. Spin The Wheel You’d never be able to guess who will be next to be indirectly asked to leave the company, as it is not dependent on your performance! It’s actually dependent on how well you are able to get in the good books of the management. 8. Good looks If you’re too pretty or handsome, beware!! You'll become a target for someone who feels insecure and may try to recruit you as their ally — where you're essentially expected to perform and entertain on cue.. Otherwise, you’d be on the blacklist (along with other reasons they can make up) of people where they’d try to replace you with a new hire! 9. Protective If you fall under their umbrella of protection, good for you! You’d be forgiven for almost any of your mistakes and even if there are complaints about you, it’d be brushed away and hidden under the rug. 10. Management / certain people have a lot of time to spare If you enjoy having someone to constantly check in on you and dictate how you should get your work done and what time you arrive and leave for work, you will love how they micro-manage employees here (BONUS: for certain groups of employees that they deem untrustworthy only!) 11. Working towards MNC culture If you wish to be the pioneer in experiencing vast changes (good/bad), you can join them. Ironically, there will be plenty of new rules implemented which are not the usual MNC style, and targets that are hard to reach for a SME. Management will also ask for your feedback, but they will not understand and comprehend it - things will still stay status quo.
Cons
(Don't be fooled by the word Marketing, it is not a marketing company) 1. Weaponized incompetence If you are under the leadership of a person who does not have relevant experience, may you be blessed by all the Gods available in this world. You will end up with more workload, with more explanations to do and meetings that are unproductive. If you are working with a team member who is unable to get their job done, there will be a domino effect and you’d end up taking on additional workload to clean up someone else’s mess. 2. Unfair treatment - New hires will be provided a higher salary remuneration & senior roles in the company as compared to current employees who have contributed a lot over the years. - Some departments are not provided the same benefits of some unspoken rules in this company / WFH. While many can leave the office before the time is up, some have to stay back and clock out via the app at a specific time. - Some rules are only applied to a group of people that the management is targeting, it will not be applicable to the rest who are on their good side (because they know how to bootlick) or joined the company due to their connections. 3. No quarterly / annual review with barely any pay increment The very reason why there is little to no job progression despite working for years in this company. There is no way of providing feedback/reviews based on your performance or that of your peers. 4. No transparency - Bonuses or 13-month bonus is dependent on how much they earn or the management’s mood. There is no B&W on how it is being distributed to their employees. - When someone provides feedback to the management, there is no action on their end. It depends on who you are complaining about, then they might or might not take action against them. 5. Fake Glassdoor reviews There are some reviews that were obviously written and given to push up this company’s rating. It’s not possible for a company to have: “Pros: They have a good management Cons: No there is basically nothing Advice to Management: Nope, they were nice” When all the other reviews were quite negative and detailed. 6. Talking down on employees / sexist behaviour - Voicing your opinion doesn’t matter to them, especially if they deem you not capable enough or have no connections/backup (as a friend or family) to their family ties. Your opinion only matters if it benefits them, instead of the teams’ dynamics. - Just because you are good at something, they will potentially categorise it and validate their decisions as ‘females/males are good at doing this, which is why I passed it to you to handle’. 7. They will find a replacement to replace you, instead of providing you more support There have been many cases where the management will find a replacement, start hinting or find ways and means to make you quit rather than telling you upfront that they wish to let you go. Additionally, current employees might have thought that the management is providing more support for them, but that is not the case.
