Pros

Pay Some staff is super kind Alaska

Cons

This place is an absolute joke. You will be overworked with absolutely no breaks. Even during a 14 hour shift. No breaks. The company is unorganized and full of nepotism and favoritism. No matter how hard you work and that you never miss a day you will still be treated poorly and unfairly. They will promise you a job for next season and then ghost you and leave you hanging. Anyone can lie to your boss to get you fired. If the boss likes that person then they will listen to them and not you. Some bosses like the young girls and promote them heavily. Also very old fashioned way of thinking. There are a ton of positions that girls will not be allowed to do. Yes, there are some good points pay is decent and some staff can be super nice. But overall it's not worth the stress. Also housing is a joke. You stay in moldy horrible trailers and the employees trash the kitchen and place. There is always loud partying and drugs. My advice run. Please save yourself the stress. And no I am not a disgruntled employee. I am being as honest as I possibly can. I was going to come back despite this but found a better job. Also food is extremely expensive and hard to get.

Pros

-For the outdoorsman/woman -Can easily gain experience in other occupational disciplines one may not have been provided the opportunity with previously -Overtime eligible -Pay on-par with expectations -See wildlife every day -A chance to slow down and get in touch with nature and meet people you would never meet otherwise -Company sponsored CPR first aid training -Chance to learn about native culture and to immerse and to fully separate from your normal life in every imaginable way -There's an on-island clinic with decent features -NO income tax in Alaska! -There was an opportunity through another organization to perform paid wildlife monitoring activities -The morale-building work events and games were super fun and a highlight of my work experience

Cons

-There is no such thing as personal space and personal life on an island -I do not believe that seasonal employees are offered benefits -Can be hostile depending on interpersonal and social ability -Workload not commensurate with described outcomes as seasonal employees were not provided ship schedules and expected guest counts prior to starting the season -Company glazed over true job responsibilities and continually added to what you were expected to cover (unprofessional feel) I essentially became a box-breaker-downer and crab preparer for weeks, I didn't want to do those jobs. -Breeding ground for employee abuse and neglect because of no checks and balances, low accountability, low morale at times, and remote location -The lack of access to feed yourself decently
