Pros

Working with the troopers to ensure that emergencies are handled promptly is a benefit. The troopers are very professional and will bend over backward to always lend a helping hand to the public in any way possible. Working with them is the only benefit to this job as their work ethic is inspiring and motivating.

Cons

For the telecommunicators (dispatchers), there is no training program. Yes, for the position of trainee there is no training program (the state thought it was a waste of money, so it was cut years ago). The curriculum and training manuals provided by the state are all at least 8 years out of date. This includes the sections on how our software system, which was upgraded at the beginning of this year, operates. Because of this lack of structured training, it is next to impossible to learn this job. There are thousands of variables to every incident that may have to be dealt with, but the training doesn't cover that. Additionally, the people there focus on criticizing rather than assisting with situations, even life-threatening ones. They sit and criticize and focus on telling you how much more correct they were rather than dealing with the incident first. The supervisor encourages trainees to ask questions when they need help, but the actual trainers/telecommunicators just criticize you for not knowing something. They are very good at their jobs, but are not willing to train the trainees.
