Pros
I worked at INOVA Fairfax for 4.5 yrs and started as a new graduate in the ICU fellowship. I will say that their fellowship program for new graduate nurses was great and prepared me to become a competent ICU nurse. You a large variety of patients in all the ICUs. Patients fly in from WV and MD to recieve specialized care. Aetna provides the benefits which are quite good
Cons
There is extremely high turn over in managers (3-8months). With no managers there is no one to escalate problems on the floor to. Patients that should be 1-1 in the ICU (CRRT, Traumas, TPA patients) are being paired and jeopardizing patient safety. Falls are at an all time high in the past 6months related to short staffing Staff turn over is high in the ICUs for various reasons, but new graduate nurses are being hired in bulk in the ICU and are not recieving the proper training from experienced veteran nurses which is resulting in more mistakes, poor attention to detail and med errors With the increased Cost of Living in the northern VA/DC area, INOVA has not given their employees a SUBSTANTIAL raise in the time i worked there to keep up with the growing area. Your 1x bonus per year is based off of the HCAPs score in your area(ie: womens and childrens, the medical tower, and heart and vascular dept) not off your own individual or Unit performance. Staff morale across the hospital is low, the happiest people seem to be environmental service team
