Pros

-As a PhD student if your salary comes through Curie you may benefit from expensive healthcare insurance, a 75% refund for transport expenses and a generous amount of holidays. -The academic scientific level is generally high.

Cons

-As of 2024, PhD students are underpaid, with a net salary less than 1700 euros per month, insufficient to live in Paris. -4th year PhD students are paid the same as 1st year students. -In my experience there is a lack of project and team management pipelines. Some people are micromanaged and team leaders do not necessarily have the interpersonal and organisational skills to properly lead a team.

Pros

Excellent colleagues, a center for scientific debate at the heart of Europe, great talks every day by scientists both local and visiting from all over the world. Superb location if you enjoy scientific debate. Paris!

Cons

Space issues, cold, narrow rooms, aged infrastructure, subpar IT support, career opportunities limited if one is not French. Paris prices.
