Pros

As an ILS worker you are able to create your own schedule with your caseload. The community supports directors (supervisors) are supportive and informative. The office culture is open and most of the workers are friendly.

Cons

The amount of driving can wear you and your vehicle out. The mileage and travel compensation is not enough and you may end up spending most of your income on gas, oil changes, and other repairs. Completing paperwork is also fairly stressful. There is too much to complete and not enough time. ILS workers are free to stop in the office to print or scan, but that is only if you have the time throughout the day. The turnover rates are high and you rarely get 40 hours of work per week. Not a job for individuals going back to school. If you move and you request your caseload to switch, you may end up waiting for at least a month until changes are made. ILO has a lot of other positions but the outlook of promotions are slim. Most positions above you require one year of experience-that is if you can last that long, or you can demote to a lower paying position.
