Pros

Had very flexible schedules and were willing to work around school schedules (which is what made it an attractive job at first). Also flexible with last minute schedule changes in case of emergencies, at least during my time there.

Cons

Employees are disposable with this company. Retention rate is very very low. I worked for this company for over a year and I saw many people come and go. Training is horrible. You initially get 1 week of training if hired for North American Power and then get thrown on the phones or approximately 1 week training for "SmartReceptionist. Which trust me it is no where near enough training. Wages start of low and during interviews you are promised raises during reviews but they NEVER follow through. There's always one thing or another that you did slightly wrong that you need to improve on until next training. Shift leads that have been there longer are amazing and have a lot on their plate basically insuring employees get trained and taking all the angry call. Management on the other hand seems to promote newer shift leads based on favoritism which does nothing for the Company as they cannot efficiently answer question. In the long run causing delays in questions being answered an increase in upset callers. Follow up training is always done after changes have been done leaving the employee confused when script appear. Training for new calls may happen after you've taken the call and where caught like a deer in the headlights. This is by no means the trainers/shiftlead's fault as they do the training when management tells them to and many times they aren't even aware new calls are going to start coming in. There's only so much the representative can do to help customers and thats how we were trained. We are taught how to go around customer questions. We are basically trained to "beat around the bush" and "hey we'll take a message for you" which is hard to do in an position where the people that call think you can genuinely help them. Software, computer programs, and equipment itself is outdated and hard to work with. Representatives are expected to work with slow computers and work around with buggy programs. They rather teach the "quirks" than update systems. Head sets are rotated amongst representatives and seats also rotate daily. No personalization of your area. Everyone is expendable except those who are friends with management. You may be fully trained in all areas and have extra skills essential to the company (i.e. bilingual, great with customers on the phone) but if management thinks its time for you to go, you will go. There are no benefits even though papers were filled out multiple times for "research" on a proper health plan for the company. Nothing never came from it. If you actually read through all that I want to just tell you it may be a good transitioning job. Maybe as a first job, unemployed for a while and just need to get back on your feet, or if attending school. BUT be weary that patience is needed ...in excess. I was able to work here for over a year and its a great learning experience and does help you grow as a person. You become patient, learn to think on your feet, and be resourceful with the minimum material that is given to you. And you appreciate any other job that after this one.

Pros

Easy to get hired, sales experience, you bond with your coworkers because you're all enduring the worst job of your lives together

Cons

Schedules constantly change usually without your permission, commissions sucked from the start before they reduced them and changed the policy making it so anyone could get commission no matter if you work harder and are a better agent then someone else; and if you set one wrong disposition on a call they dock your entire commission for that day even if you do send an email to correct it. No sunlight. Bathrooms always smell like a sewer pit and lunch rooms are tiny, freezing cold, and dirty. You can't personalize anything. Friends of management are promoted before eligible "normal " employees. You are just another number, just another agent, you don't feel like you're part of a team or family at all. Inconsistent in all policies, rules and daily routines. Cut our hours so that they didn't have to pay overtime if they needed us to stay late. Hired way too easily, you're worth no more than the next guy who just got out of jail.
