Pros

Intermountain Health Care is largest healthcare provider (monopoly) in several states so there are many choices of jobs, facilities and locations to choose from. Healthcare benefits are decent, opportunities to take a limited number of classes such as Excel, Microsoft Office, etc. are available. Hospital environments are very friendly and cafeteria food is good and discounted for employees. Primary Children's Hospital is a notably outstanding facility. Matching 401K funds available, many businesses offer IHC discounts for goods & services. Small bonus at year's end, small yearly raise. Most employees are dedicated to excellent patient care. This is a good company for a starter job, or employment while you're attending school, but would not recommend it for long-term professional development. IHC is very generous in paying for applicable college course work.

Cons

Overall management is 1950's style - totally paternalistic with little awareness of 21st century business protocols. There are no women, persons of color, or even facial hair among the upper echelons of tall, lean, clean-cut, white males. The blandness of corporate thinking is pervasive. Promotions appear to be settled before applications or interviews are accepted. If you are not sucking up or in the in-group, you will not get promoted. The corporation is devoted to outward appearance of a wholesome, above-reproach organization while totally avoiding a good hard look at the well-being of thousands of their $8 - $14 per hour employees. Employee feedback is not valued. Once a year a Gallup poll of employee attitudes is taken and assessed, but there is no follow-up when a supervisor/manager gets very bad responses.

Pros

The best benefits by far— comprehensive and easy to navigate and understand.

Cons

Policies and procedures have become detached, less human and much more “bottom line” than in previous years. My disability requests were denied and I haven’t been able to move up or even laterally to accommodate myself in this organization despite having my Bachelors and recent work samples due to the automation of hiring and how removed HR seems from managements goal to promote from within. They’re missing a lot of talent in front of them.

Thank you for sharing your feedback, both positive and constructive. At Intermountain Health, we believe that a culture of well-being for all caregivers is foundational to our ability to deliver on our mission of helping people live the healthiest lives possible. Caregivers are at the heart of what we do, which is why we have invested in and implemented several programs and resources to help caregivers enhance their physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and financial health. It’s important that every caregiver feels secure, supported, and safe, both at home and at work. Additionally, data plays a big role in how we care for patients—and it also guides how we support our caregivers. That’s why our benefits are thoughtfully designed to balance affordability, sustainability, and competitiveness, while creating a consistent experience for everyone on our team. We’re always listening, and as caregiver needs and market trends evolve, so will our benefits.
