Pros
Some good people to work with and learn from. Some good quality work to be involved in. Fairly flexible in that you have scope to be involved in a variety of different types of work. Usually a decent emphasis on work life balance but this depends on the people you’re working with.
Cons
You are at the behest of the resourcing system; it is essentially luck of the draw whether you get staffed on engagements that will benefit your career. Some colleagues seem to have better luck than others. The appraisal system takes no account of the above. There isn’t a clear structure in place for progression - your career is very much your responsibility and you will have to advocate for yourself constantly unless you have the good fortune to have developed a good relationship with someone senior who will involve you in the high quality projects. Pay is bottom of the market. Variable quality in management.
