Working within InvoCare revealed an entrenched culture of toxicity and insidious managerial negligence. Across multiple teams and interactions, a clear pattern emerged: ongoing bullying, intimidation, and hostility from both managerial staff and certain long-standing employees. Concerns raised through internal channels were consistently dismissed, and those responsible for harmful behaviour remained fully protected. Over time, I watched a continuous turnover of staff — including individuals who walked out mid-shift because the environment had become unbearable.
There appeared to be an internal hierarchy among certain managers, an “old guard” operating on secrecy, favoritism, and control. This group cultivated an atmosphere that was professionally damaging and personally draining. Employees were routinely set up for failure, denied support, and pushed toward resignation if they questioned poor conduct or attempted to uphold reasonable boundaries.
Working conditions themselves were concerning: long hours, constant exposure to harsh weather, and a persistent disregard for staff welfare and mental health. Any attempt to maintain healthy boundaries was met with retaliation, blame-shifting, or accusations of being difficult.
These issues were not isolated incidents but part of a systemic cultural problem. Leadership not only failed to intervene but often enabled the behaviour. Reports of bullying went unaddressed, while those responsible were protected. Genuine compassion and a desire to provide meaningful service, qualities that should be central to this industry — were treated as liabilities rather than strengths. Standing up for yourself meant becoming a target.
For anyone considering employment with this organisation, caution is essential. Do not assume you will be able to change the culture; you won’t. This is not an environment that supports empathetic, purpose-driven individuals. It tends to favour those who operate through intimidation, control, and negligence toward others.
If you are seeking a workplace grounded in respect, compassion, and genuine care for staff as well as families, this is not it. For your own well-being, I strongly advise you to stay away.
