Pros

Peppy Kids Club is an easy way to get to japan with a working visa. They will hire and sponsor just about anyone from an English speaking country, so long as you have a 4 year degree. There are also a few other benefits that you won't find at other English schools. Primarily, if you only have one or two classes to teach, then you only work 1 1/2 or 2 1/2 hours. (however they have an ulterior motive for doing this) This creates the biggest pro I have for the company short hours and lots of free time depending on your location. This only works in your favor, if you're placed in a small town in the countryside as I was. Most teachers work 6-7 hours on most days. It is also one of the only English schools I know of that has some real career opportunities. A few of the departments heads at headquarters in Nagoya are foreigners. Most of the people who you work with on a day to day basis are amazing, welcoming people and I made some lifelong friends while working there.

Cons

Going back to one of the Pros from earlier... I mentioned that you work short hours if you don't have a full schedule. The company does this to keep workers under 35 hours a week and therefore not full time. In doing so they allow themselves to take advantage of their workers. For example, not sharing the cost of health insurance, among other things. They also pay far less than the industry average and don't set their teachers up for success. Because you teach alone with no support staff you get very little help in your growth as an educator. If your lucky, you get to team teach with a teacher from a different school once a month and you have a monthly meeting where you can share ideas and activities. However, most of the time you're on your own. You also get very little face time with your students, only one hour a month. This makes it very hard to create a connection with many of the students. But, the biggest problem I have with the company how unethically the are run. They prey on rural communities where there are few if any other options and provide a lackluster service. They use there foreign staff to legitimize themselves as an English school which is why they have such high turnover. They don't expect you to stay at the company and don't want you to. It's cheaper and easier for them to pay low wages, give minimal benefits and replace teachers after a year.

Pros

- The pay is great for the hours worked - If you like working evening hours you can have lots of free time to explore Japan -The curriculum has it's kinks, but it's usually fun and workable for the age group. -Training is more thorough than other Eikaiwa

Cons

-Kids can be badly behaved -In spite of the emphasis on "safety," having a single teacher in charge of a batch of small kids is not a safe arrangement -Japanese coworkers are often overworked
