Pros
As a teacher of 12 years, I can say that there were ZERO pros to working at JadeClass.
Cons
Management was condescending and passive-aggressive with teachers. One manager demanded that you work 100% of the time, looking over your shoulder, counting bathroom breaks, and squashing any sort of human-to-human interaction. I was asked by one of my superiors several times to rat on other teachers regarding their respective performances. The teaching environment is the most sterile, OCD setup I've ever experienced. Each classroom must look identical, with identical magnets in identical locations on each whiteboard. Every desk must have the exact same number of pencils, erasers, and whiteboard markers. Each trashcan must be in the southwest corner of each room, and each teacher must write on the whiteboard in the exact same way. The location is next to a highway. To get to the building where the school is located you have to walk a long barbed-wire lined road in an area of Shanghai that is just garbage. For lunch breaks, you are limited to a tiny convenience store nearby selling meat in vacuum-sealed packages and buckwheat tea. Or you can eat cake at a coffee shop. The building where the school is located is freezing in the winter because all of the windows at the entrance are always open. Men openly smoke cigarettes in the bathroom that the boys are supposed to use. And finally, one of my friends at JadeClass, a teacher, told me that his boyfriend who had also worked for JadeClass was fired for being homosexual.
