- Research in general is sometimes boring. - Frequently ran out of things to do. I wish it was more fast paced. - Students sometimes think an internship will lead to contacts that will lead to a job. Not the case with this internship and probably not the case with most other internships. JPI goes through a lot of interns so an intern has to really make an effort to try to stand out (so they can use a JPI staff member as a reference in the future) which can be hard for introverts... - Internship was not paid when I was there. A transportation stipend would have been nice!

A small dedicated team of smart, passionate people committed to justice reform. JPI is often at the leading edge of some issues in the criminal justice field - keeping the office fast paced and relevant. The small nonprofit environment provides an opportunity to gain experience beyond your job title and responsibilities.

The work pace can be exhausting. JPI tends to write and release more reports annually than similar sized organizations in the field. As a result of funding streams and the fundraising strategies new funds are usually project specific and come with additional work, reducing the flexibility for staff to remain engaged with recently completed work as well as active in the broader justice reform community.
