Pros
Great location downtown near shopping and restaurants. Generous amount of PTO and 401k matching. Salary is at market level and maybe slightly higher.
Cons
DC office is so micro-managed that staff and attorneys are leaving. It's a struggle to get work completed between the bureaucracy and the terrible technology that we have to use (network connection drops frequently, laptops freeze, etc). They want the moon and stars, but they do not give you the tools to properly do your job. The firm is tight with OT for staff and many of them do not put in for the OT that they have worked. We're told not to work without pay yet they turn a blind eye to it. Staff are required to be in the office 4 days per week while attorneys are only asked to be in a couple of days per week. Recently, the firm rolled out a time keeping program for support staff to account for all the tasks they complete throughout their work day. The data from those time entries will be reviewed by an outside consulting company who will offer "solutions" such as outsourcing or Shared Services Department in a LCOL. Support staff in the DC office is already stretched thin with many covering 5, 6, and even 7 attorneys. This whole exercise is demoralizing, adds another layer of anxiety, and we are helping them eliminate our jobs. Diversity and Inclusion is a marketing gimmick and not seriously implemented at the staff level.
