Pros

Suffering builds camaraderie. Most folks in the newsroom are decent, if somewhat transient.

Cons

Massive turnover. In my three years there, every managerial position save one turned over at least three times each. Reporters consistently break contracts to bail out. Just when one key position is staffed, another one opens up. A lot of this is due to heavy-handed interference from Sinclair HQ which maintains an on-site rep to personally oversee the news director and make sure everything is done down to the finest detail of the corporation's nakedly partisan playbook. The tactics constantly change but the strategy is the same: We will win by appealing to old, uneducated, suburban women who have no interest in conventional news. KEYE, by the way, never comes close to winning.

Pros

– Alright pay/salaries, however this depends on your position and time with the station. – You get to work in Austin, which is a fantastic city and place to be.

Cons

– Constant in-fighting and talking behind other people's backs, especially from newsroom and production employees. There is a lot of negativity at this workplace, and it shows. It's the culture at the #3 rated station in Austin. – Extremely dated and run-down building space. Everything here–including the technology behind the scenes–is old. It's unacceptable for top 40 television market. – Members of management rarely appreciate their subordinates hard work or effort. – This station is run by a highly controversial and politically right-leaning corporation that has made rounds in the news lately. – This is a dual affiliation news station that includes Telemundo programming on subchannel 42.2. There is constant drama, fighting, and just a general sense of meanness between the KEYE news team and the Telemundo news team. – A few people at the station have been there for 15+ years, which means they're entitled to not actually do anything when they come to work and instead shift their work to other employees. – The benefits aren't great at all. – You can work here and love what you do, but don't expect to have your work noticed or rewarded.
