You learn a lot if you’re a self starter
A lot of nice people
Abilene is a nice place to live and raise a family
Negotiating pay usually not an issue if you just bring it up
Cons
Upper management in news could not care less about on air, too focused on web and beating/bashing competition
Takes months to hire someone, even in-house
News and production departments typically on completely different pages
On air talent has become rather weak for the most part because it relied so heavily on those (specifically anchors) who are now gone, leaving little to no qualitative leadership
Sexual harassment complaints never taken seriously or addressed, no matter how many times the issue may arise with the same person/people
Favoritism in newsroom is outrageous
A lot of lazy people in “leadership” roles. Have been there so long, they think they’ve earned the right to do nothing
