Pros
Access to a great set of academic resources and greatly discounted tuition. Great benefits and further along the tech curve than public and private employers of comparable size.
Cons
Tuition discount doesn't apply to online learning fees, which fund a dysfunctional continuing education office. In many scenarios the University buys expensive software and develops custom alternatives to needed software that can be bought cheaply. Many positions are selectively advertised to qualify the opening for H1-B positions. No wage increases have been approved over the past three years. Worse, there's a general hiring freeze leaving many positions vacant while qualified employees jump for greener pastures. Meanwhile, rents are sky high.
