Pros

I cannot vouch for every center since they are not all owned by the same people, but they all fall under the same stipulations from HQ. The same values we instill in the kids we coach are the values management looks for in their coaches. There is little to no work drama, everyone has each other's backs when covering shifts, and there is always an opportunity to pick up extra shifts as well as advance into higher positions. I have been at KidStrong for roughly 1.5 years and have received two raises and two 'level ups'. This is genuinely the best place I have ever worked, and the day I leave will be really, really hard.

Cons

"Requires" off-the-clock work, such as watching videos and studying slides to learn the courses before coaching. Also since shifts are set and we do not clock in, I tend to have issues completing closing duties and still completing shift reports before my shift is up. Although requiring these things to be done off the clock is illegal, it is definitely phrased as if you will get written up if these things don't get done.

You wear many hats although most of your days are basically grinding sales calls.

There’s a lot to cover here. 1. There is minimal training across the board. Everyone I spoke to felt as if thrown into the fire. This is due to their very high turnover rate due to the impossible expectations. They’re spread pretty thin in my opinion. 2. The culture is gross. They call it giving “feedback” but it’s mostly people grasping for power over others. Be prepared to deal with many condescending conversations. Especially from those at the same level as you. There’s no “senior” levels of management outside of AM-GM-AGM hierarchy but it certainly will feel that way from many of the longer term employees. Prepare to have very thick skin. 3. Don’t ask questions. They will tell you to ask them but don’t. It will set you up for failure and give them leverage to make you look bad or get disciplined in the future. 4. Don’t talk about anything in general. Lots of people eavesdrop on conversations and will go out of their way to hurt you professionally. You’re not allowed to talk about equity and inclusion, pay transparency, benefits, meetings, or even PTO. 5. The work life balance is as everyone says. Long hours with expectations on your days off. They also expect you to clean towels and general inventory washings at home on your own dime. The contracts also include a fire at will + move you to whatever location whenever clause. Therefore, they can just force you to commute wherever whenever. Also, they don’t provide a gas card or toll compensation if they do this. Be prepared to eat a lot of money on commuting if they just randomly decide to move you. 6. No HR. Upper management is not on your side and not having an HR makes it worse. They won’t record anything you report. Everything is he said she said.
