Pros
While working at Kmart, I had a wide variety of assigned tasks that varied from day to day. Working as a cashier allowed me to talk to customers and learn more about people I would never have met. Working the floor taught me to respect the work that is put in to making the products presentable. All areas of the job gave me a new respect for the people that work retail.
Cons
The Kmart in my small town was often not very busy, so there was a lot of down time. As a cashier, during down time you are supposed to review your checkout lane and make sure everything is straight, in order, and presentable, but when nobody enters your lane for a half hour or more, there's nothing to straighten and it can get boring.
