Pros

The product is great. The CEO is great. Most of the Engineers are great. No, really, the CEO is great. He is personable, humble, and very intelligent. It was a privilege to work for him, and I would be more than happy to do so in the future.

Cons

The new VP of Engineering. Metrics are a good thing, but they are only as good as the scope they are derived from. I am a firm deliver in using data to make decisions, but when it comes to people, a couple of data points are insufficient. When we brought this new VP on, I decided to do some research... Like I said, metrics have their place. Using Glassdoor and linked in I was able to compile a list of company reviews before, during, and after the afore mentioned VP joined several companies. There is not enough data to make a strong case, however there is enough to suggest a probable coalition between the VP joining the company, and a sharp downward turn in employee moral that lead to a steep increase in churn. Not sure why this was not discovered during the vetting process, it was simple data to get at. I understand the thought behind his actions, but it is a very one dimensional thought. If people were machines... well, it would be much easier, and his approach would be good, but people are not machines, and looking at the spine of a book does not give you the needed information to judge it's content. As for my methodology of research. It is simple enough. Reviews on GlassDoor are dated. It is easy enough to find who the VP of engineering was at the date of this writing. From there, it is simple to find the previous companies he has worked for and the dates of those employments. One can then, simply come back to GlassDoor and look at reviews for those companies, that fall within the date ranges of his employment. Knack is not the first company to suffer, and it is unlikely that we will be the last.

Pros

Knack is a fantastic company if you want to work on challenging and meaningful projects while growing your skills. The team is super collaborative and focused on creating a no-code platform that helps small businesses succeed. You get to work on things that actually matter to customers, and it’s rewarding to see how your work makes a difference. The projects are ambitious—things like improving the app-building experience or launching new features like Flows. It keeps things interesting, but it can also feel like a lot at times. That said, the team is supportive, and there’s a strong culture of jumping in to help each other when needed. Knack does a good job of giving people room to take ownership and come up with ideas. If you like problem-solving and want to make a big impact, it’s a great place to be. The work is challenging but rewarding, and it feels like the company is heading in an exciting direction.

Cons

The pace can be intense, and priorities shift quickly, which might be overwhelming for some people. As a growing company, there are still some gaps in resources, especially when launching big initiatives, which puts extra pressure on teams. The learning curve for new hires can be steep, given the complexity of the platform and the diverse range of projects.

Pros

When I joined Knack, there were some good people to work with and smart teams. Unfortunately now Knack is completely segmented and your work output is solely determined by JIRA points, and so it is not much of a positive.

Cons

Software development decisions have been handed over from competent and qualified engineers to a group of stakeholders who are very focused on their own metrics. Extremely insecure job. Massive layoffs, often, for political reasons, zero opportunity for advancement in company due to nepotism. All high level engineers and "architects" are personal friends of CTO. There is only one software developer left at this company who has been there for more than 2 years. Severance package gutted down to two weeks so if you have any sense that the company is not right for you, it's best to leave asap on your own terms.
