Pros
There's a TV in the break room
Cons
Heavy workload, with little pay. Scheduling conflicts can come up often, as they expect you to know when you'll need to call out weeks/months in advance. Don't even think about calling out on holidays... Training lacked efficiency. After orientation from a manager, you receive one day of training, which I spent shadowing a co-worker on the register. The next day, I was thrown onto the floor, with little knowledge of the departments and specifics of the job. The training that I received from my co-worker on the register was okay, but management should spend more time with new-hires. You learn as you go with this job. Each day, you may face different problems, which you can either try to solve yourself, or spend the day paging a manager. Asking questions is apart of any learning process, which I have no problem with, it's the managers' clear attitude that's present any time you ask a question. Most people complain about the customers, and guaranteed rudeness you will experience when working in retail... However, for me, management and some of the longer employed co-workers of mine gave the most problems. From bad attitudes, to gossip-like cliques, the experience has been unpleasant to say the least. I've unfortunately witnessed too many instances where managers/E3 were 'quietly' poking fun at other employees behind their backs, as well as telling fictitious stories of employees. Management can be very mean-spirited, and it happens too often. Another issue with management is miscommunication. You can expect to see about 4 or more 'higher ups' in a day. Each time you see a new one, you're told to do a new task. Be prepared to get yelled at by one or more of those 'higher ups' for not doing what you were told. Not much room for advancement, unless you plan on waiting 10+ years... no guaranteed promotion. Which means, everyone working at Kohl's is either seasonal or part time...unless you've been there since middle school. Then you might be an E3/Manager. Might be. Constant pressure from E3/Management to sign up for a Kohl's charge, after spending the whole day trying to solicit customers to do so...knowing the negatives of the card. I wouldn't recommend this job to a friend... or foe.
