Pros

They are pretty good about giving you a day off if you know 3 weeks in advance or more the exact days that you need off.

Cons

Where to start... this has been the most unpleasant work environment that I have ever been a part of, and I am actively seeking employment elsewhere, but unfortunately its not easy in this economy. So... I was initially hired to work in appliances and in children's, and I have work there for 2 hours, I was stuck on the register because I lucked into a couple of credits, because everybody in the store needs to know how to run the register, and because I got a few credits early on, they will not move me off the register, because I am one of their best credit solicitors. I have made it known that I would like to do something else, but everytime I ask there are always excuses or general avoidance from management. I can understand why, so many people are leaving the place, I am getting the majority of hours and credits at POS. The store is always understaffed, they will have their credit events with 15-30% off and I will be the only cashier working during the busiest times of the day, when one person calls off everything goes to hell because during the week they only have a skeleton crew. Management constantly harasses you to get credit, no matter how hard you work, no matter how good a job you do, the only thing that matters, the only thing you get praised for is getting credit. Management said that "we are a team, not a family, don't get it confused" they generally don't like to be bothered, and any time a customer has a complaint, we are not supported, they just give in, giving the customer whatever they want. I have been nitpicked about every little thing, from the direction that I face when folding clothes to being accused of wearing jeans when I wasn't. They won't let us have water, the scheduling is crappy, they love giving out these 6 hour 45 minute shifts where you only get a 20 minute break the entire day. Plus when they schedule the cashiers by themselves you have to fight to get a break, because floor associates will just ignore calls to give breaks because they know you can't chase them down, plus even though they are not supposed to they will take their breaks during the 2 hour block that they are supposed to be backing up. They pay us only .15 over minimum wage, and if we so much as talk to a fellow co--worker (when one is around) they will split us up and make us fold clothes and then yell at us if a customer walks up to the register while we are folding. I don't mind doing a good job, but its like I am punished for it. I see plenty of places where cashiers are cashiers, and nothing else. If there are no customers, they don't do a thing except eat and text. This place expects a hell of a lot for very little money and no appreciation. Scheduling just sucks too, some people only get 4 hours a week, and the ones that get the most hours, like me, will just get crap, they won't give you 8 hour days or 4 hour days, where you actually get decent break schedules, you get bombarded with 6-6:45 shifts where you only get one break, they might give you two days off in a week, but they are almost never consecutive days, and a lot of times you either close the night before your day off, or open the day after, or a combo of both. I have worked full-time before and I have never been as drained as this place can make you feel with 20-30 hours a week. Very few employees, especially cashiers, are happy at this place. Lazy people are not punished, they just expect the better workers to pick up their slack. Oh, and if we end up getting stuck on a register because we don't have "closed" signs, we don't get paid for it unless we are 15 minutes over.

Little to no training been working here for almost a year now there’s still something I don’t know every day. What was most difficult for me was being at registers as I was trained in two days by shadowing someone. There are so many situations and problems that will come up every day and you will learn something new! They never taught me about Kohl’s cash, how to read receipts, reprint or edit receipts. They schedule so little so when you do learn something there’s no chance of rehearsal because you come in three weeks later working at a different department.
