Pros
I'm a recent hire @ Kooltra, but I can already tell there's something really special about this place. The staff are smart, inclusive, and ambitious. Everyone seems to be intrinsically motivated; intuitively focused on what needs to be done to continue growing the business while developing themselves professionally. There's no obvious social hierarchy; people freely share information and are receptive to new ideas. The company also has some truly incredible potential. We're working on filling a gap in a very large market that's traditionally been under-served. We've got a flexible product and are able to adapt quickly based on what we're learning from our customers and the market in general to continue to create value. It's still early days (at the time of this review we're only ~30 staff), but there's an optimism among the team that we've got all the ingredients we need to be very successful.
Cons
Working at a startup isn't for everyone. If you're looking for a very structured and predictable day, you likely won't find it here. To be successful at Kooltra you need to take an interest in the business - be curious and figure out what will help move the needle in the right direction - and use that to guide your day. The only exception is Development - our Product Managers do a decent job of grooming our backlog and prioritizing work for our Devs.
