Pros

The technology is great. It has a lot of current applications, and potential for the future. Low level employees are great to work with and very smart. Benefits and work-life balance are decent.

Cons

Everything is always in crisis mode because the project planning pipeline is never followed. Short-term dollar chasing derails projects because of a single client's request. Directors and VPs have been promoted because they have been around a long time and are loud, not because they are the best people for the job. Department heads have large egos and nurse grudges against each other for years. Groups are incredibly silo'd and antagonistic toward each other as a result. There is no accountability for bad actors. The CEO is timid and unwilling to put forth a bold vision for the company, preferring to be very conservative and hedge every bet.

Pros

Pleasant work conditions, flexible hours, most co-workers are easy to work with. Compensation and benefits are probably better than average.

Cons

This is what happens when you take a bunch of bright, hard-working but extremely sheltered and over-protected academics and let them try to run a company. Severe dysfunction at all levels of management. Arrogance/narcissism of upper management, refusal to clearly communicate company goals and priorities, key personnel lack experience working elsewhere that would provide valuable insight on how a successful company is run. Standard practices and procedures (documentation, procedures, etc.) in place at most other tech firms in Silicon Valley are completely ignored here. Watch out if you're a senior researcher/engineer/tech with experience elsewhere because if you dare suggest approaches that have worked successfully elsewhere, you will be viewed as a threat and singled out harassment by high-profile but hyper-sensitive individuals who have never held a job anywhere else.
