Pros

You learn how catty casting agencies can really be and what a bad internship experience feels like

Cons

They don't teach their interns anything. It's all common sense, they talk down to you while walking past you like you need to kiss their boots. They don't pay their interns so most of the time you have to waste all your money on expensive metro card rides while they act snooty around you. They say you will have the chance to read in the rooms with the actors but that never happens. The other interns I spoke to had similar thoughts and we felt used and not appreciated. There is no learning culture here they push that they are interested in your questions and your comments but in reality they just want you to sit back at your desk and pick up the phones. Also they lie about the ability to go on sets for process media as well.

Pros

This is a great place to learn the basics of what a casting director does. Staff are all so nice, lots of answering phones, minimal errand running, staff is always happy to answer questions. I'm an actor and they were happy to talk to me about my future and my career.

Cons

You aren't in the audition room, I got to see any audition that I wanted on tape though and I learned a lot.

Pros

Firstly, let me tell you to please disregard the other review entirely. However, if you're searching for an internship where you lay around all day and get praised for it, then by all means please "Run Away While You Still Can". Also, if you're not a good people person (i.e. you can't have a conversation with strangers, or you can't have a cheery professional conversation of the phone) then I believe that running away applies to you as well. I began my internship for LR Casting in January of 2018, and I can honestly say that my life has never and will never be the same as it was before I started at that company. IN A GOOD WAY! I picked up my things in LA and moved to NYC for this internship, praying that the accusations from the other review on here were false. What I discovered was that as long as I put in the work everyone was happy. Everyone at the office, including Laura Rosenthal herself, treated me with the utmost respect. They tried to include me in every conversation, they genuinely seemed to value my opinion, and they spoke to me with the same amount of trust and respect that they used with each other. I learned so many wonderful things working at this office, and I was absolutely devastated when my time with them came to an end. I became the most confident, happy, best version of myself when I worked at Laura Rosenthal Casting. If you are willing to put in the work and the hours, you will have a wonderful experience at this office.

Cons

Personally I don't consider this a con, but some people might so it's going here. The work that is done by interns is not glamorous. You're not going to have a say in who's being cast in the next Spielberg film. As an intern with LR casting, like most internships, the work is the stuff that no one else wants to do. It's a lot of filing and tedious research. HOWEVER, this work is vitally important! Someone has to do it in order for the project to happen! Even if the work isn't the sparkly Hollywood job you dreamed of, you're still helping to make commercial/tv/movie magic happen.
