Lot's of freedom and name recognition, opportunity to work on cutting edge projects. Fairly nice location, decent benefits and good career development support.
Cons
Let's be real, it is difficult to live in the bay area with this salary. Half of mine is going to rent. But what's a government lab to do ? Very little opportunity for permanent positions. More minor issues: you have to deal with some standard government bureaucracy and the HR department is.... an HR department, so lower your expectations.
