Pros

LGC has its strengths. Personal day allotment is reasonable, employees are very close-knit and work as a team to meet goals, the 20% employee discount on store merchandise is more than generous.

Cons

The main trouble with LGC is with the people who call the shots but aren't in the stores everyday, regional management. It suffers from a crippling, Machiavellian leadership style and does not pay attention to the true day-to-day needs of the store. For example, the weekly truck is often overloaded with items the store already has and does not have any room for, and leaves employees scrambling to either overload a cramped backroom with overstock, or clutter the store floor with unnecessary floor displays in order to get rid of the excess merchandise. Regional management is either unwilling or unable to fix this problem, leading to A LOT of wasted money and resources on their part. This along with slow response time to employee requests, incompetent decision-making, and an Office Space-type emphasis on small, bureaucratic details has lead to increasing tension amongst employees, along with lower morale and high turnover rates.

Pros

Good starting wage for basic retail Flexible scheduling - able to trade shifts with other employees as needed Managers don't tolerate BS from customers

Cons

Corporate management required changing storefront layout nearly every week. This is a store with many heavy kitchen items stacked on front tables and displays - re-arraging these so often was a very bothersome task.

Pros

Great opportunities for advancement if you are intelligent and motivated.

Cons

You're working every holiday and weekend. No set schedules so you work late one night open early the next day your sleep cycle gets really messed up. Very possible to work 7 days in a row without a day off and usually don't get two days off in a row. This is pretty much the case in every retail job I've ever had though so not a real strike against the company. LGC was definitely one of the best retail jobs I've taken. No longer in retail because the hours are terrible and the pay is not enough to live on.
