Pros

Met some great co-workers while there.

Cons

It wasn't long after I started that I realized how unprofessional the owner was. I mostly laughed it off as him being an eccentric until I had to go to a trade show with him. He made me drive the whole time to and from Washington DC as well as do all of the manual labor of setting up our show booth (note: He didn't want to pay the unionized shipping dock so I had to carry everything several blocks). While I was unloading he even went and got lunch for himself (didn't even offer to pick me up anything). He stayed at a nice hotel in town with the car and made me get a taxi to my hotel and take the subway to the convention center each day (along with a 40 pound industrial light fixture.) On the ride home he made me drop him off in Manhattan and take the subway home. A week later I was fired without warning.

Pros

Co-Workers are awesome! Very nice people all around on a personal and professional level.

Cons

If you want to be put down everyday by your boss then this is the place for you! When I got called for a second interview to meet the owner, it seemed like a huge inconvenience for him to sit down and meet a prospective employee. Ok but his daughter is a sweetheart, she was very nice and called to hire me because their office manager was on "maternity leave" but she wasn't returning? I was grateful for the position because it was super convenient for me. After about a week or so, my position turned into being the office go-fer. Not only that but the owner talked down to me everyday practically and when I told his daughter, she told me not to take it personal. I was put into tears! The owner would always tell me that I made mistakes and didn't know I was doing but yet called me into his office to help him on their own computer system and I've only been there a short while. He would also put down where I came from and I from what I've read and seen, he is very racist. As soon as I told him I needed to leave early for an Islamic holiday, he treated me different and acted weird. He treats everyone in the office like peasants because in his brain he thinks he is the next Steve Jobs. They pay employees practically nothing for all the hard work they do. When I started I was told that there was an 80 hour cap for two weeks and there was no overtime paid but legally by law they must pay overtime... Oh and we had to clock out for breaks but also by law everyone is entitled to a 20 minute break on the books and shouldn't clock out. I got laid off right before I made three months working there probably so they wouldn't have to pay me unemployment... Never saw that coming considering I was being told I was doing an awesome job. The business is being driven down to the ground and the rudeness and racist owner will see that coming one day. I suggest anyone to think twice about working here, there are a million places to work in nyc and here shouldn't be one of them to consider. Oh and PS. They sometimes put ads in Chinese papers so they pay workers less!
