Pros

Let's see, You get paid? Well, NOT REALLY, as that is questionable. They offer healthcare insurance...eh, Yeah, but deductibles & costs are most likely much less costly thru, dare I say, OBAMACARE!! Wait, I got it...You get a decent discount on your mobile service. That's the pro. Whew, And I thought I couldn't come up with one.

Cons

EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS EMPLOYER IS A CON. Mgmt/Publisher is narrow minded, lacks vision, leadership skills, ability to motivate and/or provide direction. The work atmosphere is very similar to one in which the "patients run the asylum". Seasoned staff could be encouraged to and choose to be valuable mentors to others, instead they bully, gossip, belittle and treat badly, those not in their "clique". There is a double standard they are encouraged to practice. There is no leadership. No motivation. Direction is non existent. Process documentation and process improvement, training & documentation -- things even a mediocre business has in place as a standard, Daily Journal does not. 0. Pay is pathetic and annual reviews you are told about during your interviews, they NEVER HAPPEN. Raises? No. Cost of Living pay increase? You are too funny! No, that never happens either!!! Animosity between departments is huge, out of control. It has been consistently ignored for years. It needs to be addressed. Saying, "That is how it has always been between Dept A & Dept B", is not going to help the issue. DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!!! There is no teamwork. No encouragement of teamwork or being a team player. No cohesiveness. No leadership. No direction. Leadership has no backbone. There is a Good ol boy mentality, along with one very misogynistic, chauvinistic sales person who consistently talks down to staff. Despite this being well known, there is no retribution, no discipline, no consequence. This includes no actions taken by HR If the above are not bad enough, picture this. Several LARGE Brown water spots can be seen on the ceiling. When it rains, buckets must be placed throughout the building to catch water dripping from the ceiling. The dust & accumulation of dust is atroscious. When you walk through the doors you might think you just walked onto the office or set of Mary Tyler Moore... The show from the 70's. (The desks most employees have are probably as old as the desks in the show.) And the chairs. Dark paneling on the walls. The bathrooms. Disgusting. UnHygienic. UnHealthy. UnSafe. What looks to be black mold in climbing up the bathroom walls. You will feel ill almost immediately after walking into the building. Lighting is awful, several lights out every day, consistently. If you're in sales, plan on paying most business expenses out of your own pocket. No, Daily Journal won't pay a % of your mobile bill, but you WILL need to use YOUR phone. If you are being recruited for a sales position a bit of advice, before you accept the position. Perhaps you should meet or speak candidly with current employees. Or, remember the difference between ACTUAL and POTENTIAL.

Pros

None that I know of.

Cons

Poor benefits, 70-hour work weeks, constant fear of staff reductions, community calls daily complaining about the lack of news. I could go on forever.
