Pros

Beautiful facility, save the wear and tear they don't seem to care to fix or update anymore. Holes in doors and walls, and crank beds from the turn of the century. Plus their entire skilled wing has no emergency outlets. In the event of an outrage you have to pull the residents on oxygen into the halls to share the maybe ten generator outlets available. That is if they don't die before you get to them with an extension cord that is stored at the far end of the building. But they somehow manage to attract strong and dedicated staff who deserve much better than they will ever receive at Orchard Villa.

Cons

Unsafe staffing like you wouldn't believe. They require a ratio of 1:15 or more for STNAs, then discipline them for not getting charting done. They require skilled nurses take on all nursing responsibilities for any hall or entire unit they staff with a med tech to save money, essentially increasing that nurses ratio to 1:50 or more. That still includes skilled and high observation patients and med passes on two units. Salaried nursing staff and management don't care at all. They make it home on time every day no matter how much they have to unload on an underskilled team. Their skilled unit often runs with no IV certified LPN and no RN in the building for 8+ hours a day. Double that on weekends when your on call RNs will lie through their teeth to get you through your shift without them having to come in. Also your unit manager and DON will ask you falsify documentation with no reservations. Including but not limited to the DON pressuring you to make up records after somebody has died. And if you are in management you will get threatening calls from corporate demanding you cut nursing hours to even more unsafe levels or face having hours illegally cut from your and every other nurse's pay. They scheme to keep from giving you bonuses and raises they offered you. I was guaranteed a $5000 sign on bonus and only saw half of it after being there a full year because they forced me into a part time position after eight months and claimed $2500 is all my position warranted. I was told I would receive two sums of $750 as sign on bonuses for new employees I brought to them. I got $250 x1. It took them 6 months to give me my annual raise of only $0.48. When they promoted me they offered me a decent raise, but only gave me $0.77 for taking on responsibility for the entire building, all admissions, all discharges, all IV therapy, and I still had to take a hall aw a floor nurse. But they didn't apply my meager raise for three weeks so I worked and put my licence st risk for them for absolutely no reward. And if you quit, they reduce your pay to minimum wage for all your hours and vacation pay out on your last check.
