Pros

Great people to work with

Cons

- low salary - uncertain future & job safety - leadership changes direction all the time - some teams get a team-building event every year, others none at all The CEO mostly collects ideas from X.com and leads his company based on these. In a recent podcast on YouTube, he explains the current round of firings / restructure in a way that he sees himself as the gardener and the company as the grapevine. The Liferay product is the grape. In order for the grape to be strong, he needs to prune and cut the vines that are not strong enough to produce strong grapes. By doing so, he also "frees up" these people. The issue is that often they fail to separate the weak vine from the strong one and they fire good people. He doesn't see that sometimes, if you prune too much, you might hurt the grapevine. The strong vines can become overwhelmed and won’t be able to support the grapes any longer or with the same quality.

Pros

- Good work/life balance - Genuinely nice people

Cons

- Not competitive pay - Outdated product; Company is riding on the coat tails of a successful product they made in 2002. The product has not significantly evolved since then and has lost almost all market relevance in developed countries. It is currently riding out their slow decline by cutting costs and focusing on developing nations/markets where their software can still be relevant. - Management team lacks experience, decision making, and vision to meaningfully evolve their product. Company has a 20+ year track record of failing to innovate. - Founder and current CEO has questionable values and is a right wing extremist.
