Potentially Rewarding with Rotten Leadership - Consultant Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes Employee Review

Pros

-- Kids are great to work with -- Parents, while they can be demanding, are often grateful and rewarding to update on students' progress -- Camaraderie between "star cast." Job can be stressful, and you do tend to develop a support system among co-workers, which at least in my experience has led to lasting friendships

Cons

-- Low pay. Only pay raises without promotion come with annual reviews, up to 3% based on performance. These don't happen every year though. In my 5 years, I only had two "annual" reviews. -- As in any job, a lot depends on management. If your center director is reasonable, you may not bear as much of the brunt of how crazy the corporate leadership really is. If not, things can turn very abusive very fast. -- Benefits are pretty abysmal. I always found the Obamacare marketplace had better options than what was offered to full-time employees through the company. -- Online instruction is difficult. Kids are often plopped in front of computers, and it is difficult to keep them on task without them physically in front of you. The instructor and/or consultant inevitably get blamed. -- This is actually a pretty common narrative. Most employees are hired right out of college, on summer break, etc. and given a great deal of responsibilty without any experience or guidance. Ostensibly there is supposed to be mentoring, but for me this was about 3 hours in my first week. Then staffing issues lead to battlefield promotions. Freshly hired 21-year-olds being asked to write lesson plans and update parents, feigning expertise. This would be one thing if it were just some summer camp, but parents pay tens of thousands of dollars for their kids to come here for remedial instruction, and the company will just throw three raccoons in a trench coat into center leadership positions and then swindle these parents into thinking only the most highly trained expert instructors are looking after their kids' instruction.

Thank you for sharing your experience with Lindamood-Bell. We value your dedication to working with students over the years, and we consider feedback such as yours about compensation as part of our ongoing efforts to improve our workplace. While we appreciate your perspective, some descriptions in your review do conflict with our practices. For example, while clinicians work one-to-one with students, our most experienced staff members handle lesson planning, progress monitoring, and communicating with parents. Your comments suggest there may have been inconsistencies at your learning center, and we appreciate you bringing this to our attention. We regret our commitment to quality instruction and staff support wasn’t always evident during your time with us. If you want to share more about your experience, please get in touch with the Human Resources Department at support.hr@lindamoodbell.com or (805) 546-5693. Thank you again for your contributions to Lindamood-Bell. We wish you all the best in your future endeavors.

Pros

It’s great to try to help people, but…

Cons

They’re so set on their particular philosophical style, but realistically, it cannot be one size fits all. Clinicians who work there are NOT experts; they only get two weeks of training. And the sessions are extremely tight, with back-to-back students (just five minutes between each, leaving no time to prepare for the next one and no chance for clinicians to catch a breath). Lessons take place in cramped, mostly shared spaces, so everyone tends to be over-stressed. There’s no way that what is taught there, and the environment in which it’s taught, is worth what they’re charging families. Not to mention that the staff break room is like the size of a closet, and even in that tight space, many people just aren’t very friendly and hardly acknowledge your presence.
